Buy fish food for the different seasons
The behavior of the fish in your pond changes throughout the year. Fish are most active in summer, so they digest more and therefore need more food. Spring and summer fish food are therefore heavier on the stomach and contain more protein. Especially in summer, regular (small) feeding is very important to keep your fish fit and growing. When it gets colder in autumn, the fish will tend to move to the bottom, and their energy levels decrease. Autumn and winter fish food are therefore easier to digest and sink to the bottom more quickly. You also don't need to feed as much in winter as in summer.
Don't overfeed
Remember to feed your fish regularly with the right fish food, but certainly not too much. Too much fish food will rot and negatively impact your water quality. Fish should be able to eat the food within 5 minutes. Any food left over after that sinks to the bottom and adds more debris to the pond. Once it reaches the bottom, the food will hardly be eaten, if at all, and will rot. If the fish do eat the rotten food, for example, because they are very hungry, they can become very ill.
