UV filter for your pond
UV, or ultraviolet, light is used in many industries. It is used to sterilize medical instruments and to sterilize drinking water. It has been in use for several years in aquariums and ponds to control algae. Essentially, there are four main components to an ultraviolet sterilizer: a germicidal lamp, a quartz sleeve to protect the lamp from the water, a ballast to supply the correct electrical power to the lamp, and the housing, which contains all the other components and through which the water flows. There are many misconceptions regarding the use of UV in water gardens.
The main features of UV filters and their applications are:
- Elimination of microorganisms such as parasites, microbes, bacteria, viruses and algae present in the water.
- It does not change any properties of water such as pH, hardness, color, odor, etc.
- It does not generate waste in the water.
- Installation is easy, provided we ensure the water reaching the UV system is well-filtered to prevent sediment from building up in the transparent channels, which would hinder the beam's distribution through the water. To do this, try installing the lamp after the filter circuit.
- Cheap.
