Floating plant islands are a perfect habitat for animals, plants, microorganisms, and bacteria. They provide a very useful, natural contribution as water conditioners in ponds. Floating plant islands absorb nutrients from the water and also provide a habitat for waterfowl, insects, fish (egg-laying in the roots), snails, and thousands of small organisms.
With minimal maintenance, they are self-sufficient. The islands can easily be stocked with commercially available aquatic plants. The roots of these plants grow deep into the water and absorb excess dissolved nutrients, reducing the algae's food source. The islands also provide shade to protect fish from sunlight.
