Oyster shells are a natural stabilizer for your KH value and therefore indirectly for your PH value.
Many people think that if they have slightly harder tap water, they won't have any problems with the pond's KH and pH levels. KH acts as a buffer for the water's acidity (pH).
Fish, plants, and the biological filter consume water hardness (KH). If, for example, little to no water is changed during the winter, the KH value will drop rapidly. KH also drops rapidly during periods of rain. This can have serious consequences for the fish, as the pH can suddenly drop sharply (PH crash).
Please note: These oyster shells are not suitable for hobby purposes such as making necklaces or painting oyster shells.
