The pH value is an important indicator of pond environment. It is partly determined by the amount of carbon dioxide (CO2) in the water. If the water contains sufficient carbon dioxide, the pH is relatively low (7 to 8). With little or no carbon dioxide, the pH can range from 9 to 10. An ideal pH value for a garden pond is between 7 and 8.
Available in 500 & 1,000 ml packages.
At this value, the water contains sufficient CO2, and aquatic plants will grow optimally. Relatively high pH values (pH 8.5 and above) generally indicate a CO2 deficiency in the pond water, especially when the carbonate hardness (KH value) is low. Under these conditions, oxygenating plants (elodea, hornwort, etc.) will experience stagnant growth and excessive algae growth (green water or filamentous algae).
To lower the pH value long-term, you need to take biological measures. This involves encouraging the development of microorganisms. Ensure that 80% of the substrate is covered with Pond Substrate and mix in a dose of Bacterial. It's also wise to add some floating plants.
To lower the pH value in the short term, you can use Velda's pH Min. The product works very immediately and is easily added to the water.
