As spring arrives, temperatures rise. Most people head out into the garden, but the pond also needs attention. It's high time for pond maintenance! Problems during the growing season can be prevented by properly maintaining your pond in spring. As the water temperature rises, the fish become more active.

During the autumn and winter months, many leaves and branches likely fell into the pond. This can cause the bottom to become highly acidic, leading to an unwanted algae bloom later in the spring. TIP: In March, you should remove all bottom debris. Restore the oxygen level in the water. This is essential to prevent algae growth. Ensure the pond water is hard, allowing oxygen-producing plants to thrive. Pond water softens due to precipitation in the autumn and winter. This means the pond water has few minerals. By adding foodstuffs for the pond the hardness of the water is stimulated.
The pond is due for a spring cleaning: remove dead plant parts and remove bottom debris
