A thick layer of ice combined with snow is often a cause of fish mortality. An ice-free pond ensures safe overwintering for plants and fish. Keeping a small area ice-free allows for the necessary gas exchange. There are three ways to keep your pond ice-free:
1. Air pump
By creating movement from below the water's surface, creating an open area. This is done using an air pump with a floating body. Besides keeping ice free, an air pump also provides additional oxygen in the water. The Pontec air pump is ideal for this.
2. Fountain
By creating movement from above the water's surface, creating an open space. This is achieved using a fountain with a floating body and a pump with swimmers. Besides keeping the water ice-free, a fountain also provides additional oxygen. The Oase Icefree 4 Seasons is the best solution.
3. Heating element
By increasing the water temperature. A heating element is located beneath the floating body, which increases the water temperature around the float. The Icefree Thermo 200 and the Icefree Thermo 300 are available with different wattages.
