We tested the pond vacuums based on their key features, naturally taking the price into account. The Secret Easycleaner performed best in our tests. However, this doesn't mean it's always the best choice for your pond. We'll go over the most important considerations when looking for a suitable pond vacuum.
The most important factor in choosing a pond vacuum is the ability to vacuum continuously. The cylinders in a pond vacuum with a dual-chamber system fill and empty simultaneously, allowing you to vacuum continuously. Naturally, this also comes with a price tag that quickly doubles compared to other models. Oase offers four models with this feature: the Pondovac 3, Pondovac 4, Pondovac 5, and the Pondovac Premium. All other models do not have a dual-chamber system but vacuum until the tank is full, after which the pump automatically switches off and the dirty water drains through the discharge hose. The pump then switches back on automatically, eliminating the need for manual intervention. This is a key factor, primarily saving time when cleaning your pond. For very large ponds, it is, of course, recommended to purchase a system that allows you to vacuum continuously, and our first choice is the Pondovac 5. This model also discharges the water under pressure, allowing the dirty water to be transported over height differences.
As you can imagine, a pond vacuum has to endure quite a bit. Regular maintenance is therefore important, but so is the choice of pond vacuum. The Pondovac 5 is the most expensive model on the list and therefore also the most robust. The high-quality materials ensure durability and reliability, even with intensive use. Wheels on a pond vacuum are certainly not a luxury. If you use the pond vacuum as a wet vacuum indoors (without a drain hose), for example, you want to be able to easily transport it outside without heavy lifting. Nevertheless, the Secret Easycleaner scores very highly in this respect as well. A robust wastewater tank, powerful motor, sturdy wheels, and sturdy accessories make this pond vacuum a very reliable device in this price range.
Power is obviously important when choosing a pond vacuum. You want to be able to suck up as much dirt as possible from the deepest possible point. The wattage and suction depth provide an indication of the pond vacuum's power. The Secret Easycleaner has a 1600-watt pump and will have less suction power at a depth of 1.8 meters. A good score, especially in this price range. For comparison, the Pondovac 5 has a 1700-watt pump and a maximum suction depth of 2.5 meters.
There are, of course, several suitable budget pond vacuums that really do the job, such as the Pontec Pondomatic. However, for a small upgrade within your budget, you can get a much better pond vacuum with the Secret Easycleaner. It features more power, wheels, a wide range of accessories, and a very sturdy housing.
