Pond maintenance February

February pond maintenance

Pond maintenance tips and advice for February

Maintenance advice
There's little maintenance required now. Herons can be a problem in open weather, though.

Plants
Even this month, your pond plants don't require much attention. However, February can be very cold and freezing, so keeping your pond ice-free is still crucial.

Water
You can remove the bottom sludge now. This will prevent algae growth throughout the season. It's important to remove algae.

Like filamentous algae that develops along the pond's edges. Brush the algae loose and remove it from the water.

Fishing
You should now be alert to signs of illness in your fish and intervene promptly if necessary. Herons and cats can also be very active at this time. You should be especially vigilant in shallow ponds where your fish have limited hiding places. The Pond Guard Shuffle Van Velda effectively repels herons and cats.
